The Department of Education came into existence in 1962 when Gauhati University permitted the College to start one year pre-university course and Three Years Degree Pass Course. Major Courses in Education was introduced in the year of 1975-76.
Late Jagadish Chandra Brahma started this department as its founder lecturer from 21-08-1962 and continued his service as lecturer up to 30-10-1994 and then got retired in 30-09-95 as Principal in-charge of the College. Mrs. Anjali Baruah joined as lecturer in this department in 03-09-1964 and she resigned. Mrs. Malati Bora joined as lecturer on 17-07-1967 and she also resigned. Mr. Hemodhar Deka joined as a lecturer in the year of 23-01-1968 and retired as Head of the Department in 31-10-03. Mr. Nagendra Brahma joined as a lecturer on 19-11-1971 and then got retired on 23-03-2005 as Principal in-charge of the College.

The department has a Psychological Laboratory with necessary equipments for psychological practical. The department also has a library with good collection of books for lending out students.
