As a corollary to the mission of Kokrajhar Govt. College of providing higher education to the masses in general and to the people of lower Assam in particular, Political Science as one of the combination subjects among others was introduced with the establishment of the college in 1959. Major course (previously known as Honours) in the department was introduced during the academic session, 1967-68.
The subject was introduced with the basic objectives of creating interest in students in the study of Political Science, to familiarize modern political concepts and developments, to acquaint them with the working of democratic institutions, to make the students aware of various dimensions of National and International problems and to kindle in them a sense of good citizenship directed towards National Integration.
