The Department of Philosophy was established in the year 1959, along with the inception of the college. The department has been developed under various renowned teachers like retired Miss P. Das, Dr. Gopeswar Das, Mrs. T. Bhattacharjee, Dr. Ashish Tarafdar etc. At present, three faculty members are working in sanctioned post while two are on contractual basis. With these five faculty members, the Department of Philosophy is running smoothly.

Departmental Library
The Department of Philosophy has a library of its own. The departmental library comprises of various books, journals, newsletters related to Philosophy and its allied subjects. At present, it has more than 500 books in stock.
Departmental activities (in recent years)
- Organized a seminar on “Ethics, values and Human Society” in collaboration with Philosophical Forum, Kokrajhar Govt. College on 28/06/2019. In this seminar, Dr. Ajit Basak, Associate Professor & HOD of Philosophy, Janata College. Sefanguri acted as resource person.
- Organized a departmental picnic to Saralpara, Indo-Bhutan Border and also visited Shiv Mandir at Ultapani on 01/03/2020. The picnic was guided by Banashree Bhardwaj, Kunjulal Narzary & Biju Rani Basumatary, faculty members of the Department.
- Organized a national webinar on “Modern Human Predicament in the light of COVID-19: A Philosophical Perspective” in collaboration with IQAC, KGC on 13th Aug, 2020. In this webinar, Professor Xavier P. Mao, Philosophy, NEHU, Shillong acted as Resource person.
- Organized online Farewell Programme to Sixth Sem Major students’ of 2018 batch on 17/09/2020.
- Organized Freshmen Social Day for newcomers on 28/01/2021.
- Organized an awareness campaign on Religious Identity on the topic, “Understanding the Role of Bathou Religion in the context of Bodo civilization” on 21/02/2021 where Dr. Barhungkha Mwchahary, HOD, Philosophy, KGC delivered lecture before the gathering. The programme was organized at Jotaipara, Simbargaon, Kokrajhar.
